PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION/ LICENTIATE EXAMINATION

The Institute Licentiate examinations are compulsory for all electric power sector professionals practising power system engineering in Nigeria. Licensing is mandatory by law. It is against the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for either an individual or firm to hold himself/herself out as a power engineering practitioner in Nigeria without being appropriately licensed.

The Institute is responsible for determining who qualifies to practice in the sector. Organisations must furnish CIPEN through her website with all documents stated therein, board members’ qualifications and designations, and management team qualifications and designations before attracting the appropriate practice license.

Individuals or personnel must possess adequate academic knowledge and demonstrate proficiency and experience to be licensed to practice in a particular category. Therefore, it is an offence in Nigeria to practice or perform any responsibilities in any area you are not licensed to practice. It will lead to grievous sanctions, including withdrawing any practice, license, or membership of Nigeria’s Chartered Institute of Power Engineers or both.

CIPEN FINAL EXAMINATION (CFE) FOR PROFESSIONAL CHARTERSHIP (CPEng) REGISTRATION/LICENSE

 Candidates shall be assessed as follows.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Aminimum master’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Energy Systems or Thermofluids Engineering Specialisation), Power System Engineering, Transmission and Distribution Engineering, Civil Engineering (Specialisation in Dams and Hydraulic Structures)
  • Minimumten years of relevant Power Sectoral Industrial/Academic/ Consultancy Experience
  • CORENRegistration
  • Membershipof NSE 

OR

BEng or its equivalent + CPE1 Certification

Minimum of 15 years of relevant Power Sectoral Industrial Experience COREN Registration

Membership of NSE or Similar professional organisation.

EXAMINATION  

  1. Submissionof technical report cataloguing candidates’ professional experience in prose, highlighting projects and roles and the impact of each project on the Nigerian economy or elsewh Current Status of each project. Leadership Roles Occupied and Responsibilities. Candidates should avoid narrating CVs. Note (Drawings attached as appendix and duly cited, No picture or links to videos)
  2. Five publishable research papers or Conference presentations on contemporary issues or topics in the Nigerian power sector.
  3. Accounts for Non-Accountants & Business Law
  4. Power System &  Energy Economics
  5. Organizational and Behavioural Management  
  6. Financial Management
 

Candidates with an MBA/MSc Economics shall be exempted from the 3,5&6 courses.

  • Five Conferencepapers must be in Project Finance/Review Electricity Acts/Establishment Acts/Energy Policies/ Power Sector Codes for evaluatio
  • Acatalogue of Technical Experience in the Power Sector.

CIPEN PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION 1 (CPE 1) FOR PROFESSIONAL POWER ENGINEER (PPEng) REGISTRATION/LICENSE
