  1.  Academic Qualification & Professional Experience

(Minimum fifteen years of cognate Hands-on verifiable professional experience must be premised in the electric power value chain, i.e. Gas-to-Power, Generation, Transmission and Distribution.

Minimum First Degree (BEng, BSc, BTech) or HND+PGD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical, Civil, Gas, Renewable Energy Engineering, Energy or Power Systems Engineering and other industry-applicable engineering disciplines approved by CIPEN Council.  (10 points max)

* for HND + PGD holders, the PGD must be in the same discipline and from a recognised University and accredited programme.  Candidates must have been a Senior Institute member for at least Five (5) years.

  1. Professional Experience (10 points max)
  • Candidates must have attained a senior-level position equivalent to General Manager in Public/Civil Service – MDAs.

  • Candidates from the Private sector must have attained at least the Assistant General Manager level / Lead Consultant/Practitioner in ESI.

  • Candidates in academia must have risen to the level of a professorship at the point of application for consideration.

All Candidates are expected to have made significant and valuable contributions to the power industry through inventions/innovation, provided resolutions to an intractable sectoral problem(s), and presented indisputable evidence of having managed and commissioned a minimum of ten large (>NGN2B) power projects.

  1. Possession of minimum certification/Diploma qualification in management, project finance, procurement, and project management – (10 points max) 
  2. A 50-page (Max- excluding CV, drawings, etc.)  concise catalogued report on the industry/managerial experience acquired (Oobtain format from the Registry) – (10 Points max)
  3. Evidence of authorship of two (2) published/presented technical, management and leadership papers in the realm of the power sector. These papers should be technical research papers, case studies, white papers, or thought leadership articles and must demonstrate your expertise and contribution to the field. (10 points max)
  4. Mentorship is a crucial and respected aspect of our profession. We highly value senior engineers’ roles in guiding and supporting young Engineering and Power Engineering Professionals. Your evidence of mentorship will contribute to your score and underline the importance and respect we hold for this aspect in our industry (10 Points max)
  5. Application of Engineering Concepts. Candidates must show evidence of the application of engineering concepts in resolving engineering and environmental problems. This can include the use of theoretical knowledge to solve practical problems, the implementation of innovative solutions, or the development of new technologies. -(5 points max).
  6. Evidence of consistent participation in CIPEN IPECON/AGM and proof of consistent attendance of CIPEN State/Cell meetings – (5 points max)
  7. Evidence of attendance of five (2) Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) programmes in the preceding five years – (10 points max)
  8. Hold Fellowship of NIPE. This criterion will be abolished in 2030, and points earned will be transferred to a new criterion that will be raised in replacement (10 points)
  9. Evidence of service to the Institute or her precursor body (NIPE). This can include serving on committees, contributing to developing policies or standards, mentoring junior members, or any other form of active involvement in the Institute’s activities. -(5 Points max).
